VALVE Reset MIBR and Hard Legion RMR Points for Bug Abuse
VALVE have finally decided to act upon the earlier found evidences showing that some coaches were able to gain an unfair advantage in official matches due to a camera bug – MIBR and Hard Legion, whose head coaches Ricardo "dead" Sinigaglia and Aleksandr "MechanoGun" Bogatiryev used were proved to use the bug during ESL One Road to Rio, we stripped of all their RMR points.
Earlier the Esports Integrity Coalition ESIC found out that dead used the bug in 1 round, while MechanoGun exploited it in 3 matches, all within ESL One Road to Rio. There the teams placed 7-8th and 3rd respectively. The coalition ruled to ban dead for six months and MechanoGun for two years, as well as retroactively disqualified the teams from the event and forced them to forfeit the prize money and Pro League points. However, nothing was said about the RMR points.
If not for the points reset, Hard Legion would be placed 4th in the CIS region while MIBR would be rated 7th in North America. Currently these teams are still listed among participants of the fall RMR event, IEM XV – New York Online.
VALVE also noted in their blog post that they are considering taking actions against individual coaches, however they will “wait until we get a complete picture of the extent of the bug abuse and the punishments handed down by third parties” – earlier ESIC announced an extensive investigation aimed to analyses 25000 games within the last four years. The developers also anticipate that they may decide to introduce new limitations to coaching as, in their opinion, “mid-match coaching will always be a tempting opportunity for some teams to violate the integrity of the match”.
