RIOT Games Reveal Plans for Act II of Competitive Play in VALORANT
The developers of VALORANT have released a blog article on their plans for the game’s competitive system. They explained that currently players’ rank is based directly on MMR, which can lead to situations when players move up and down the ladder way too often. To alleviate the frustration it may cause to some of the players, the developers decided to introduce Act Ranks.
The Act Rank will be based on your 9 best ranked wins of the act, as well as the number of won matches during the act. This change should help players to mitigate their fear of losing ranks closer to an act end, as well as to demotivate players from purposely losing games so they can get a lower rank next season and have an easier time with less experienced players.
At the end of the second act all players will receive Act Rank Badges, which will be displayed on player card during competitive games. The center part of the badge will consists of triangles of different color, representing your best nine games. The border will upgrade depending on the amount of victories during the season – the thresholds are 9, 20, 50, 75 and 100.
The current act is scheduled to conclude on August 5th. At the start of the next act, players will have to participate in three placement matches that will be based on their MMR. The developers expect that most players will finish their placement a couple of tiers below of where they finished the previous act. With the new season start, your friends will be able to inspect your match history, rank and Act Rank. The developers also mentioned that they will use the beginning of a new season to introduce new content and balance changes.
